The McMaster Manufacturing Research Institute (MMRI) is a world-class collection of personnel, knowledge and advanced equipment resources. These resources are fully leveraged to support Ontario manufacturers as they implement new advanced manufacturing technology to improve quality, productivity, timeliness and to reduce cost while facilitating the development of innovative products/services.
The MMRI is structured to collaborate with a wide range of academic, government and industry research partners with a focus on delivering value to industry by targeting their needs and working to their timelines.
In the past decade, the University of Waterloo has built up major, large-scale advanced manufacturing research infrastructure and state-of-the-art facilities. Our industry-focused research has been critical in supporting new product and process development projects for numerous companies, most of which are medium-to-large size Ontario companies. Waterloo’s expertise in technology transfer and commercialization is proven through its many successful industry R&D partnerships.
Western University continues to develop and strengthen relationships with companies within the advanced manufacturing sector locally, across Ontario and nationally. Focused on increasing competitiveness and adding value within the automotive, defence, green energy, aerospace and building products sectors, Western offers access to leading personnel and facilities at three main centres, which continue to be at the forefront of their fields: the Fraunhofer Project Centre (FPC) @ Western, Surface Science Western (SSW) and Additive Manufacturing Western (AMW).
